Nice cosy, community pub - good traditional pub grub with garden. About 2 miles away.

This recently refurbished pub always has a great selection of local ales. Food-wise it specialises in Pieminster pies, mash, mushy peas and gravy. You can also order Thai food from the local Kemp Thai at the bar.

Good home made food. Covered outside area, cosy atmosphere inside the pub with lots of board games.

Our favourite when we're in town. The Barley Mow is a 'proper' pub, popular with people who live locally. The staff and locals are friendly, so I'd hope a good option if you're travelling on your own. It's probably more of an Autumn/Winter pub as there's no garden (there's a covered outside space, mainly used by smokers). There's a quiz night, a local group who meet for French conversation, and plenty of board games to keep you occupied. Sunday lunch is good too (including vegetarian and, I think, vegan options). They have a set-up with a local pizza take-away and a Thai restaurant. Order in the pub and it's delivered to your table. Both options are good value (for Brighton!) and have always been consistently good food.
